Purpose

This blog is going to record my thoughts, plans etc while I'm getting ready to leave my current job & go get set up as a freelancer. I've been working 9 years as a sarariman in a multinational corporation, naming no names oeuf corse, and I've come to a point where I simply have to spread my wings and fly on my own.

SO - my company are doing voluntary severance, and woo, yay, I qualify for consideration for it. I'll know by a fornight from now whether I have it, though it should be fairly much a done deal. If I'm approved, I'll have approx. 6 months' salary as a lump sum, tax-free.

Plans:
I'm planning to invest a chunk of the money in some decent Java training & then go pass my SCJP and SCWCD exams. I'll then eke out the remaining money while I look for jobs. It shouldn't take too long getting a job because I'll go anywhere & do anything as long as it means doing Java. In my idle moments at home I'll be joining an open-source Java project & getting my name into some code that hopefully people are going to want to use.
I've bought a new domain name & been sussing out logos to use for a limited company that I'll form. Once that's in place, I'm cooking with gas. More later.

First Post!

Just thought I'd give this a go. I usually use Livejournal, but I'm thinking there may be plusses to having a bunch of stuff all with Google.
